Why Is Sha’ul Important?
There are some people who have made it their work and devoted themselves, to try and discredit Sha’ul (Paul). It is perfectly clear why the adversary works so hard to try and tear down Sha’ul…Sha’ul had some important things to say. One of the first accusations that come from those people, who oppose Sha’ul, is that those who value what Sha’ul had to say and recognize him as an apostle, are elevating him above Yeshua.
Sha’ul could never do what Yeshua did for us, but Sha’ul did give us the benefit of what he came to understand and what was revealed to him. Sha’ul was blessed with incredible insight and wisdom. He was uniquely equipped for the job that he was given to do. He had all the benefits of being brought up in the study of Torah and the understanding that came from accepting Yeshua and the indwelling of the Ruach (Spirit) of YHVH. Sha’ul had the best of both sides to draw from.
Why is Sha’ul important to us? Sha’ul teaches us about the spiritual man…if we do not understand the spiritual man, how can we be prepared for the return of Yeshua? How can we be among the firstfruits and part of the little flock? We are to become the spiritual man, while still inhabiting this body of flesh. We are to be transformed now, in this physical life, so that we are prepared and ready to meet Yeshua when the firstfruits are harvested. Ya’acov (James) understood this.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning. 18 Having purposed it, He brought us forth by the Word of truth, for us to be a kind of first-fruits of His creatures.
The B’rit Chadashah is about living Torah spiritually. We MUST make the transition from physical people and a strictly physical observance of Torah, to being spiritual people and and to living Torah spiritually. Yeshua taught us to observe Torah spiritually…it becomes a part of us and a part of who we are.
If we stop and really take a look at what Sha’ul is saying and what he is telling us, we begin to understand spiritual concepts more clearly.
5 For, let this mind be in you which was also in Messiah יהושע, 6 who, being in the form of Elohim, did not regard equality with Elohim a matter to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, and came to be in the likeness of men. 8 And having been found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, death even of a stake.
What is Sha’ul telling us here in Philippians? If we just read through this, we understand that he is telling us to have the mind of Yeshua…how does that come about? How can we have the mind of Yeshua? It is through the Ruach HaKodesh…the Set-Apart Spirit of YHVH that we are given to help us understand the things of YHVH…the deep things, the spiritual things. Yeshua, in the flesh, thought with a spiritual mind and saw through spiritual eyes! What else is Sha’ul telling us here…there is more.
Notice what Sha’ul tells us about Yeshua beginning in verse 7. Yeshua had to empty Himself; He had to humble Himself, to come in the likeness of men. He had to give up something to inhabit a fleshly body. He was in a form of Elohim (spirit) and he emptied Himself to come in a body of flesh! He set the example for us…He showed us how to be the spiritual man in a body of flesh. Sha’ul understood this…he explains it for us here! It IS IMPORTANT that we understand these things! It is part of preparing for the return of Yeshua, so that we are ready to take our place with Him!
We do NOT worship Sha’ul and lift him up higher than Yeshua, or YHVH, but we learn and glean from the things that he understood and wrote about. Israel rejected those whom YHVH sent to them, to warn them and teach them…they even killed them. What happened because of that? What will happen to us if we fail to recognize those whom were sent to warn and to help us to understand?
Of course we have to think about what Sha’ul wrote…we have to think using the spiritual mind we are given through the Ruach. We have to see through the spiritual eyes we are given through the Ruach…just like Yeshua showed us through His example and through the words that He spoke.
1 Corinthians 2:11-16
11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man that is in him? So also, the thoughts of Elohim no one has known, except the Spirit of Elohim. 12 And we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from Elohim, in order to know what Elohim has favourably given us, 13 which we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Set-apart Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual matters with spiritual matters. 14 But the natural man does not receive the matters of the Spirit of Elohim, for they are foolishness to him, and he is unable to know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual discerns indeed all matters, but he himself is discerned by no one. 16 For “Who has known the mind of יהוה? Who shall instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Messiah.
Here is another important concept that Sha’ul explains to us. If we try to understand spiritual things with our natural mind, the mind of the world, it will NOT work! We can understand NOTHING with our natural mind, except for the things in this world…the limited physical things. If we want to understand our Abba, then we can only do that through the Ruach HaKodesh that we are given to open up our understanding!
We MUST have the Spirit of Elohim to even begin to understand what it is that we have been given! How can the natural (physical) mind compare spiritual matters with spiritual matters? That is HOW we are to RIGHTLY divide the word of truth! That is HOW we ARE to discern! It takes the spiritual mind! We have to become the spiritual man! I PRAY that you understand and SEE this! The natural man cannot understand the things of Elohim because they MUST be SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED!!
Abba tells us that our minds cannot understand His ways…are we going to reject what He says too?
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares יהוה. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Those who want to throw out Sha’ul are stuck in a physical mindset and foolishly believe that they can understand spiritual things using their limited physical minds! Sadly, they are deceived…PLEASE do NOT be deceived by those who have turned against Sha’ul and unwisely speak against him.
8 In the same way, indeed, these dreamers defile the flesh, and reject authority, and speak evil of esteemed ones. 9 But Miḵa’ĕl the chief messenger, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Mosheh, presumed not to bring against him a blasphemous accusation, but said, “יהוה rebuke you!” 10 But these blaspheme that which they do not know. And that which they know naturally, like unreasoning beasts, in these they corrupt themselves. 11 Woe to them! Because they have gone in the way of Qayin, and gave themselves to the delusion of Bil῾am for a reward, and perished in the rebellion of Qoraḥ.
Notice what it says in verse 10…that which they know naturally…they follow their natural mind. There is no discernment, no understanding…
Do NOT be deceived and do NOT get caught up in the deception and lies. The adversary desired to divide and destroy the people of YHVH. If we are struggling and if we are having trouble understanding then WHO should we turn too? Some men who claim to have some evidence and proof to discredit Sha’ul, or should we turn to Abba and use the discernment and understanding that we receive through the Ruach to find the answer? If we allow ourselves to be deceived, if we allow ourselves to be lead astray, if we lose our crown…there is only one person to blame…there will be nobody else to point our fingers at…
Who is this speaking? Who is this warning?
25 “And now see, I know that you all, among whom I went about proclaiming the reign of Elohim, shall see my face no more. 26 “Therefore I witness to you this day that I am clear from the blood of all. 27 “For I kept not back from declaring to you all the counsel of Elohim. 28 “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Set-apart Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of Elohim which He has purchased with His own blood. 29 “For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves shall come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 “Also from among yourselves men shall arise, speaking distorted teachings, to draw away the taught ones after themselves. 31 “Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, night and day, I did not cease to warn each one with tears.
Is it any surprise that those who seek to tear Sha’ul down; are the very ones that he warned us about? They come from among yourselves…
May the Ruach HaKodesh of our Elohim burn brightly within you and may you seek the wisdom, guidance and understanding that ONLY comes, through His Spirit. May He give you ears to hear and eyes to see, and may He guide you into all truth…
